Trio of MLS teams headline Nashville SC’s preseason schedule

Nashville Soccer Club will play five preseason games in 2018, three against MLS foes.

The team announced its preseason schedule Thursday, and it’s a lineup that is sure to test the squad heading into its inaugural season.

The previously announced home friendly with Atlanta United on Feb. 10 starts the preseason slate. Then, the Boys in Gold travel to IMG in Florida for matches against the Chicago Fire and Ottawa Fury (USL).

Nashville stays in Florida for a Feb. 25 showdown with Orlando City SC, then concludes the preseason with a visit to Cincinnati on March 3.

“I’m delighted with the calibre of our preseason fixtures,” said Nashville SC head coach Gary Smith. “There has been plenty of hard work put into planning a schedule of games that will give us some great competition as we build towards our March 17th game versus Louisville City.”

Notably, only one friendly is at home as the team prepares First Tennessee Park for its inaugural season as a soccer stadium.

Atlanta ended its inaugural season in the first round of the MLS Playoffs after finishing fourth in the Eastern Conference. Chicago finished third in the East and also fell in the knockout round.

Orlando missed the playoffs after a 10th-place finish in 2017.

Ottawa is a fellow member of the USL’s Eastern Conference. The Fury finished 10th in the East last year and missed the playoffs.

Cincinnati advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup in 2017, beating Chicago and Columbus and selling out Nippert Stadium. It lost in the USL Conference Quarterfinals to Tampa Bay.
