Nashville SC has released its full 2018 USL schedule as the team prepares for its inaugural season.
The team’s home opener is against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on March 24, and it concludes the season at home against FC Cincinnati on Oct. 13.
The team will play four regional rivals three times apiece: FC Cincinnati, Louisville City, Atlanta United 2 and Charlotte. Nashville will play home-and-home series against every other Eastern Conference team. The USL does not schedule interconference games.
Two of the team’s first three matches will be on the road — trips to Louisville on March 17 and Bethlehem on the 31.
On the flip side, Nashville will close the season with home games against Toronto FC II and Cincy. Five of the team’s final seven games will take place in Music City.
Nashville will enjoy four home games in June, an opportunity to build momentum against three teams who are new to the league — Indy, Atlanta and North Carolina FC.
July features a challenging road stretch — three trips in 18 days, including a two-game swing in Canada.
Nashville’s schedule may be one of the more challenging slates in the league. It plays three games against defending USL Cup champion Louisville, two on the road. Hosting FC Cincinnati twice and visiting once should contribute to the passionate rivalry between the two MLS expansion candidates, one of which is still hoping for a team.
Charlotte, another of Nashville’s three-time opponents, finished fifth in the East last year before losing in the Conference Quarterfinals. Meanwhile, league newbie Atlanta should benefit from its parent club’s deep pool of prospects. Nashville hosts ATL2 twice in less than a month’s time.
Since all of the USL Cup champs but one have come from the Eastern Conference, we can expect to witness quality competition in Music City.
