About the US Open Cup

The US Open Cup, founded in 1914, is the oldest national soccer competition in America. The competition was renamed after Lamar Hunt in 1999, to pay tribute to an American soccer pioneer.

The tournament is a knock-out single elimination competition with different levels of professional soccer teams competing across 9 rounds, including a play-in round, quarterfinals, semifinals and championship round.

Sporting Kansas City of the MLS defeated the New York Red Bulls to claim the cup in 2017. Bethlehem Steel FC and Maccabi Los Angeles have won this title five times.

The winning team will receive $300,000, a berth into the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League and its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy.
