Nashville SC easily defeated Atlanta United 2 on Saturday at First Tennessee Park. Here’s how the Speedway Soccer Pod rated each player’s performance.
Gary Smith – 8.0: Set out a strong lineup against a struggling Atlanta side and it played out well. All the changes he made were positive, and it was a needed win going into a tough match against FC Cincinnati.
Matt Pickens – 8.0: Wasn’t called on too often, but made five saves and controlled the back line well.
Kosuke Kimura – 7.5: Not tested an awful lot defensively, but strong going forward and calm in possession.
London Woodberry – 8.0: A pretty calm night for the center back. Completed 88 percent of his passes and dealt with Atlanta’s attackers pretty comfortably. Really calm under pressure.
Liam Doyle – 7.5: Not tested defensively as often as Woodberry, handled himself well.
Justin Davis – 8.0: Got really involved in the attack on the left flank, creating three chances and providing strong service into the box. Tracked back diligently.
Alan Winn – 9.0: MOTM. Scored a goal and assisted another. Took his goal really, really well, beating three defenders before finishing from just outside the box. Completed 91 percent of his passes (100 percent in Atlanta’s half) and consistently took on his defenders. He looks back on form, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Replaced by Jome after 62 minutes
Michael Reed – 8.0: Controlled the tempo for Nashville. Had a goal disallowed after he was judged to have pushed the keeper. Needs to shoot more when he has a clear channel, but otherwise a good night.
Bolu Akinyode – 8.5: Completed a casual 96 percent of his passes, and consistently showed up in the right place to make a well time tackle or key interception. He’s so fun to watch.
Taylor Washington – 8.0: Used his pace to create all kinds of space on the wing. Put some good balls into the box and had a great shot that went a couple inches wide in the first half. Came off for LaGrassa after 72 minutes.
Brandon Allen – 8.5: Opened the scoring for Nashville in the 19th minute, tapping in a Winn cross into an empty net. Had an obvious call for a penalty denied, and had a shot that looked like it crossed the line, but wasn’t given as a goal. A good night for him and hopefully a return to form.
Lebo Moloto – 9.0: Worked hard all night, and was dangerous all night. Assisted Winn for his goal, and scored in the 84th minute to put the game away with a really well taken shot from outside the box.
Ish Jome – 7.0: Came on for Winn after 62 minutes and had a pretty quiet evening. Didn’t do anything wrong, though.
Matt LaGrassa – 7.0: Replaced Washington with 18 minutes to go. Played a more central role and helped close the game out.
Ropapa Mensah – 7.5: Replaced Allen after 77 minutes and ran the channels really well. Got behind the defense several times, and assisted Moloto for Nashville’s third goal. A good cameo.
